Sundial is ideally located in the center of Chania’s centuries-old Old Town, surrounded by important historical sites dating from the 15th and 16th centuries onwards. Crucially, our lodge is set back from the hustle and bustle of Chalidon Street, historically known as Venetian Ruga Magistra, from where you enter the Catholic Church complex that accommodates Sundial.
As you wander through the neighboring narrow, winding streets, you’ll be transported back in time by the Venetian and Ottoman influences evident in the architecture, with many buildings constructed between the 16th and 19th centuries.
The nearby Venetian harbor, one of the best-preserved in the entire Mediterranean region, is lined with colorful buildings, many of which are now tavernas, cafes and bars, but were formerly Venetian warehouses. From the vantage point of Sundial, you can clearly see the Venetian Church and Monastery of St. Francis (formerly the Archaeological Museum of Chania), the old Jewish Quarter and the adjacent Catholic Church.
Within a 10 minute walking distance, you can find supermarkets, ATMs, bakeries, pharmacies, the KTEL Chania bus station, car rentals, and a variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and souvenir shops. The local city beach at Nea Chora is only 1.2 km away, an easy 10 to 15 minute stroll.
PARKING
Sundial does not have a private parking area.
We are located in a pedestrian area, so cars can enter the Old Town only in the morning, between 07:00am to 09:00am.
Thus, parking spots must be found in a vicinity of 3-9 minutes walking.
Suggested area is around
“Polichroni Polichronidi Park” where public parking is free.
Alternative is private parking at “Parking Plaza” which is 350m (5 minutes walking) away from Sundial (charging by the hour).
